In 1991, Richard Bennaars and Frits Gronert founded Galerie Atelier Herenplaats. Now, almost thirty years later, it is a creative and lively place where more than forty artists can work and develop further in their profession as artists with the guidance they need.
After working at Herenplaats for almost thirty years, Frits is retiring. Frits has worked for Herenplaats for thirty years, as artistic director and accompanist. With passion and love for art, Frits and others have ensured that Outsider Art has been given a more prominent place in the art world, both in the Netherlands and internationally. The boundaries of Outsider Art have become more fluid as a result, the art that is made is in the foreground.
Galerie Atelier Herenplaats has now become an organization that ensures that its artists are respected and seen at home and abroad.
Frits’ last working day at Herenplaats is November 5; he is retired as of 9 November.
We would have loved to celebrate Frits’ farewell with you, but due to the current pandemic and the specific situation in the Netherlands, we are postponing this to a more festive time when it is again possible to safely gather with more people.
In order to give shape to everyone’s appreciation and thanks for Frit’s years of dedication to Galerie Atelier Herenplaats in this time, we have been looking for the right way.
To celebrate the farewell, we are now preparing an exhibition: Memories of Tomorrow. Here we look back to the early years of Galerie Atelier Herenplaats, but also ahead with recent work. The data on this will follow shortly.
