Mariska McEnti

“I’m different from others, but I’m myself”

Mariska has been working at atelier Herenplaats since July 2009 and experiments with all techniques: painting, drawing and graphics. Abstract, organic, splash art, figurines, pointillist cats… Her drawings became finer and finer, almost like lace. She has a wide range of interests, including three-dimensional work and photography. In recent years, she has also been working on her digital techniques, which she feels very much at home in. Mariska feels increasingly free to combine images and styles and to express herself in her art. In this way she develops more and more her own style.

A number of themes recur in Mariska’s work.

She fell in love with Castellers and the Catalan Culture.  In her art, she conveys the hope, strength and feeling of Catalan culture. Collaboration is strength. Mariska gets a lot of energy when she can collaborate on art projects.

‘Project Freedom’: With autism you can be trapped in patterns, but an artist wants freedom. Mariska makes series of photos combined with images that together tell a story.

Nature: “If you have nature in your head, you will automatically become calm or happy”

Erwin Olaf in a jury report on one of Mariska’s photo edits: “… A creative image that makes you think… I always think that’s a good thing when the photographer has mastered the technique well and I, as a viewer, am put on the wrong track.”
