Corné (1972)
Text: Corné / Vincent Haenen
“I have to tell my story, otherwise I’ll defect. I don’t care if I’m understood, because I haven’t been understood all my life. Fortunately, I don’t necessarily need to be understood anymore. I have the urge to make sense of the world around me without using words. I think in images and prefer not to waste words on them. Words that you can only get caught up in, and that are subject to someone else’s interpretation, which is often the opposite of what was intended.
No, I prefer to entrust my images to the canvas, where I understand exactly what I mean, and where I don’t really care what story this evokes in the head of my audience, because for me painting is just an outlet. In this way, every work I make remains interesting for myself, because it is a form of fixed energy that produces a different story every time a person looks at it. I love this interaction: 1 picture is worth a thousand words and 1 picture is worth a thousand stories. ”
This is why Corné paints. On large canvases with a deep black background and with great attention to detail, the images are carefully selected and composed. He already has the composition in mind and by making preliminary studies, Corné determines very precisely which images he uses. Technically, these works are very cleverly executed. In a brilliant way and with a lot of humour, Corné paints his worldview.
“This is what I can do! Let me make, create!” Since 2018, Corné has been able to fully indulge in his work at Galerie Atelier Herenplaats, on large-format canvases and with professional materials. Keep an eye on his work: A great promise!
