Phil Demise Smith, whose work is featured in the upcoming exhibition, will attend the opening of ‘Free Spirits’ on September 14. We have been in contact with Phil since 1995, who works in New York and also has a gallery ‘Wares for Art’ there. He is a great lover of Lucebert and besides visual work, he also makes poetry and music. The first exhibition in his gallery ‘Wares for Art’ was ‘The Holland Tunnel’. There is a warm interest in and enthusiasm for each other’s work and projects. Artists from the Herenplaats have exhibited with him in New York. Phil publishes and teaches Expression Art – a practice that focuses on the process of writing and creating art. The individual way of working is central to this. In his own work he also shows who he is, a world free of rules, also characteristic of the CoBrA movement, of which Lucebert was a part. We are very happy that he is coming to the Herenplaats and Rotterdam, the opening of the exhibition promises to be very festive, with music, poetry and visual work. Everyone is welcome on Friday 14 September from 5 pm!
Phil’s arrival in Rotterdam was made possible by the Friends of the Herenplaats ‘De Klakkenaar’.
