Grietje Killian (1969)
Grietje experiences the world in her own unique way, a walk in a museum, shopping in the city, a meeting with a stranger, all these impressions are subconsciously being processed in her art. Her way of working is rather impulsive, she does not limit herself to just one technique. All materialls and techniques that pop up in her mind are being used. A flat drawing becomes 3-dimensional by making it thicker, folding and cutting, turning it upside down, replacing colours by photographs. The art works are mixed media collages where houses with roofs mingle with huge manga eyes. Fragments from older works are being combined with new drawings.
She works gradually and consistently on her works of art. She says it takes time to develop your own vision, “it grows slowly, my handwriting is important and in combination with spontaneous ideas a new language of images is developing”. Through her work at Herenplaats she has never been this productive and she is amazed at the things she creates. “My life begins where my comfort zone ends”
